Blair to turn his full attention to Scotland

Former Scotland scrum-half Mike Blair will be Scotland’s full-time assistant coach from the end of this season.

Blair has been operating a dual role with both Glasgow Warriors and the national team since 2017 but will now focus solely on Scotland once the current club campaign comes to an end.

Blair was part of Gregor Townsend’s coaching team during the 2019 Guinness Six Nations that ended on an amazing note with a thrilling 38-38 draw in the Calcutta Cup clash at Twickenham.

And while focus is on Glasgow Warriors’ push for the play-offs in the Guinness PRO14 for now, Blair cannot wait to help Scotland progress further past the Rugby World Cup and into the 2020 Championship.

Blair said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Glasgow. The club gave me my first step into senior professional coaching three years ago, allowing me to develop and gain valuable experience.

“I’m proud to have been part of the Warriors set up and have loved working with the players and coaching team here. I am looking forward to finishing my time here on a high.

“I will then be able to focus my efforts fully on Scotland in preparation for the Summer Tests, Rugby World Cup and through to the 2020 Six Nations.”

Scotland head coach, Townsend, said: “I’m delighted that, from the end of the season, Mike will be able to focus fully on the national team in an important year for the Scotland squad.”
