Four tries and another bonus point for Ireland as they subdued a lively Wales side 31-7 in Round 3 of the Guinness Men’s Six Nations at Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Ireland have won seven of their last eight Test matches against Wales, the last three in a row as Ireland captain Peter O’Mahony achieved another career milestone with his 50th Guinness Men’s Six Nations appearance.
Ireland performed a dominant first half against a lively Welsh side to lead 17-3 at halftime. Dan Sheehan added to his Championship tally before James Lowe added a second with Jack Crowley kicking the extras. The second half proved to be a scrappy one with Wales forcing errors from Ireland and tries from Ciarán Frawley and Tadhg Beirne, two conversions and a penalty from Jack Crowley.
Wales and Ireland have been forced to replace a 100+ capped outside half since the World Cup. The Irish have pinned their faith in Munster’s Jack Crowley, while Warren Gatland has filled his n. 10 jersey with the Scarlets duo Sam Costelow and Ioan Lloyd in the 2024 Guinness Six Nations.
