Stuart Hogg produced a moment of magic as Scotland got their first win of the 2020 Guinness Six Nations with a hard-fought 17-0 victory over Italy in Rome.

The Scotland skipper showed his class after a nervy opening quarter, accelerating between Luca Morisi and Sebastian Negri before beating Jayden Hayward on the outside to score.

Gregor Townsend’s men thought they had a second soon after when Ali Price raced over the whitewash, only for it to be ruled out for Hamish Watson’s forward pass in the build-up.

Tommaso Allan had a chance to close the gap before the break for the Azzurri but his penalty effort hit an upright as Scotland remained 5-0 up at the half-time interval.

With victory from assured, Scotland make a quick start to the second half and doubled their lead through Chris Harris after the centre brushed off Matteo Minozzi to dot down.

And while Adam Hastings missed the conversion again, he bounced back to score Scotland’s third try and added the extras after Italy were reduced to 14 men when Federico Zani saw yellow.
