Guinness Six Nations Fantasy Rugby 2020: Must-have backs for Round 2

Loading

The Championship is in full swing and the weekend’s results set the landscape for fantasy players to tread carefully.

Those building a lead in their league are looking to consolidate, and those falling behind are taking risks to claw back some ground.

The battle for bragging rights is underway and here are some targets for your backs in your Round 2 team to lend a helping hand.

If you haven’t picked a team it’s not too late, you can read our explainer of how the game works by clicking here.

Jonny May

Whilst England’s campaign got off to a losing start, Jonny May was a bright light in a difficult display at the Stade De France.

The Leicester winger scored six tries in last year’s Guinness Six Nations and continued his form with two scores against France in Paris on Sunday.

At 29-years-old May is in the form of his life and having already racked up 54 points, he is bound to pick up a few more against Scotland at Murrayfield.

Although he is one of the more expensive players in the game at 16.4 stars, the prospect of England bouncing back in Edinburgh courtesy of a trademark May sprint down the line is too enticing to turn down.

Teddy Thomas

The recalled Racing 92 winger was left to absorb the disappointment of being omitted from France’s RWC squad in Japan last year but has come back in fine form to reassert his place in a resurgent side.

Les Blues ravaged England in Paris at the weekend storming into a 24-0 lead and Thomas featured heavily with numerous line breaks and good defence.

Although he did not cross the whitewash, he played tremendously well and was arguably more deserving than his low points tally of 30 on the opening weekend.

With France playing host to Italy, Thomas – who costs 14.2 stars – will have his eyes on getting his name on the scoresheet this weekend – a tempting prospect for fantasy managers.

Antoine Dupont

The 23-year-old Toulouse man is certainly a star in the making, and he was the focal point of everything good that the French did on Sunday.

His performance was an absolute masterclass and if he keeps it up, he could well be making a case for Player of the Championship honours.

He totalled 44 fantasy points at the weekend, managing 63 metres and six tackles – one of them dominant – in Paris.

He will look again to pull the strings on Sunday and exploit space against the Italian’s defence – he is certainly worth a look at 16.1 stars.

Josh Adams

The leading points scorer, try scorer, and most expensive player in the game as it stands at 18.3 stars, Josh Adams will be high demand in Round 2.

Chances are that most teams out there will have included the Cardiff Blues finisher in their sides come the start of next weekend’s fixtures, but you’d rather have him in than out.

The Welsh superstar has already amassed 14 tries in his 22 test appearances and doesn’t look like stopping in his stride anytime soon.

Ireland in Dublin pose the toughest test to Wayne Pivac’s side to date, but even if they halt the Welsh in their tracks, they will struggle to stop Adams from crossing over in this fine form.

Quite simply, if you don’t have Adams in your side, you’ll be punished for it by those who do.

Adam Hastings

Stepping in late on for Finn Russell, Adam Hastings directed things with aplomb against Ireland on Saturday.

Although the result in Dublin amounted to disappointment, Hastings offered a real boost to Scotland’s attack as they put in an encouraging display.

The Glasgow Warriors fly-half is an excellent player in his own right and is turning into a vital component of Scotland’s plans this tournament.

At 11.7 stars he is an absolute steal and, based on the last two Calcutta Cup clashes, he could be an inspired choice should the Scots again retain the trophy.
