ERC Tournaments Talking Points – “Amlin Opta Index” findings after first five rounds

Loading

As the Pool stages of both the Amlin Challenge Cup and the Heineken Cup conclude this weekend with a series of decisive matches in Round 6, Mike Brown of Harlequins leads the way as the Amlin Opta Index’s top performing player.

The Amlin Opta Index is a unique comparative analysis of player performance in the Amlin Challenge Cup and the Heineken Cup. It uses unique mathematical formulae and modelling to objectively compare player performance in both those two European club competitions.

After five rounds, the in-form Harlequins’ full back is ranked as the top performing player in European Rugby this season. He is also the joint top try scorer in the Heineken Cup so far in
2011/12 with five, including a memorable brace away at Toulouse in the fourth
round. The England hopeful has been key to Quins’ success this season, as proved
by the fact that no player at the club has made more metres (248) and no player in
the entire competition has beaten more defenders (21) than him.

Mike Brown’s Points Breakdown
Attack……………….1235
Defence………………373
Lineouts……………….26
Kicking……………….102
